Introduction to Mental Health Awareness (2 hours)
This introductory session aims to raise awareness of mental health and mental health difficulties; to help people understand some of the causes, and outline a range of support options. Topics covered include:
- Definitions of mental health and ill health.
- Common forms of mental illness, such as depression and anxiety.
- Stigma and discrimination of mental illness and how to tackle it.
- Support and sources of help.
Mental Health Awareness In Depth (Half day - 4 hours)
This practical and interactive course explores mental health in more detail and looks at ways your organisation can help people who are experiencing poor mental health feel safe, supported and understood. Topics covered include:
- How mental health differs from mental illness, plus signs and symptoms.
- The cost to organisations and the UK economy of poor mental health.
- Causes of poor mental health.
- Stigma and discrimination – the impact on health and wellbeing.
- Supporting people with mental health difficulty and signposting to support.
Mental Health In The Workplace (Full day)
The morning session of this course covers the same topics as Mental Health Awareness In Depth. In the afternoon, participants will develop skills in managing people with mental health issues. Topics include:
- Common conditions and understanding the side effects of medication.
- Stress and how to manage it.
- Mental health at work: confidentiality and disclosure.
- Your duties under The Equality Act.
- Making reasonable adjustments.
Mental Health First Aid (2 days)
Developed in Australia in 2000 and now internationally recognised, the MHFA course is ideal for managers and other designated workplace staff who want to develop their skills and gain a recognised qualification. The course teaches people how to recognise the signs and symptoms of common mental health issues, provide help on a first aid basis and effectively guide those towards the right support services.
Participants will receive a certificate and an MHFA manual.
